There are plenty of oppurtunities to travel while in the Navy, whether it is for leisure or while stationed in many of the possible places around the world. Usually most of your travel will be done while on deployment.  Those of you who make the choice of shipboard duty may see the most travel. While on deployment, your ship may make port visits for refueling, re-stocking of supplies or just for a chance to allow sailors to stretch their land-legs. Other times you may be sent to schools which are not in the geographical area of your duty station. Most often your Permanent Change of Station (PCS) orders will allow you and your family a new place to live. The choice, although shrinking can be very interesting. Including overseas duty stations. PCS orders can be anywhere from California, Texas, Florida, Washington, New York, Hawaii, Japan, England, Greece, Italy, and many many more. These duty stations can offer a wide experience of cultural differences.

Leisure Travel

With the stresses of being stationed in other countries there comes an opportunity to travel to many different places that otherwise would just be a dream. From your different duty stations, travel is much cheaper as it is much closer. On most bases there are travel agencies that know all about the local areas. These people can help you plan a vacation for you and/or your family.

Continental US/Overseas Travel

Although travel can be seen as exciting and adventurous, it can also be stressful to move your family to a new location. Moving to a new duty station often means leaving behind friends and family for a new place to start all over. Times between moves can be as short as 6 months or a few years depending on your career path.  For school age children it can mean new schools and new people. For spouses it can mean changing colleges, jobs and career opportunities. Although, most moves near major military installations will give them the opportunity to meet other military spouses and "navy Brats", which helps with the transitions.Tthey realize that moving can be difficult and stressful but also realize the importance for the navy and career of the sailor. The FFSC can help with these transitions.

Overseas service can add additional factors to travel. Due to the sometimes isolated or far away duty stations around the world it may be difficult to visit family and friends especially during the holiday seasons. Email and video email may help bridge the gap these duty stations bring.
